What Our Students Have To Say:Subject: Reflecting on a fun and adventurous weekOn the plane heading home, reflecting on a fun and adventurous week. Thanks for your part in making it special as I completed what will no doubt be the first of many SCUBA adventures. Your patience, confidence, and the way you put people to ease made it a comfortable, educational, and enjoyable experience. I look forward to recommending you and Roatan to many friends. I'll send along a disk with photos this week. I'm also taking the liberty of including shots from my snorkeling on the reef off West Bay, which I think you'll enjoy. I've noted a significant improvement in the snorkeling as a byproduct of the SCUBA lessons! And when you see the turtle picture that I desperately hope looks good, I want you to know I had to go really deep without breathing for a loooooong time to get the shot, blowing bubbles all the way :-) Bev :-) Subject: Great instructor, great instructionJust wanted to let you know how pleased we were with Jami Betheaepstein in his instruction of our daughter and her boyfriend last week. Lyn was PADI certified fifteen years ago, but hadn't been diving in over ten. Drew had no diving experience. Jami worked diligently with both. He not only taught every skill, but also made clear the reason for learning them. He was serious yet patient which put the kids at ease but instilled a desire to master the skills. As a result, they now feel comfortable with SCUBA diving and look forward to many years enjoying the underwater world. We would certainly recommend Jami to anyone interested in learning to dive or upgrading their skills to Dive Master or beyond. We were also impressed with the NAUI curriculum and approach to diving. The focus on safety makes it a very strong program. Sincerely, Subject: What A Blast!!!To Whom It May Concern; This past April (2009) I was crewing on a friend’s sailboat and made landfall in French Harbor, Roatan, Honduras. While ashore at the Fantasy Island Resort and Marina, I encountered Dr. James Batheaepstein, owner/operator of Divers At Play. I am a sailor and fisherman and, although I became a certified scuba diver in 1990, I had long lost interest in the sport and had no intention of taking advantage of the countless dive opportunities in Roatan. My chief interest at the time was bonefish and tarpon. While chatting with Jami, I told him that since certification I had only been diving 4 times in the intervening years and, due to lack of confidence, I was so totally preoccupied with my wellbeing that I was unable to enjoy any of these experiences. Jami suggested that a recertification under his instruction might rekindle my interest. Although the proposal was not even on my radar screen, I found Jami so engaging, I could not refuse. Jami refreshed my understanding and tested me on the concept, use and implications of dive tables, then completely outfitted me for a dive at a nearby site. Jami advised that we would separate from the dive party on our way to the site of a plane wreck and then on to a 65 foot tug. Jami and I peeled off from the others and he proceeded to give me a one-on-one instruction, demonstration and execution of all essential skills necessary to deal with life threatening events at depth. His communication technique was superb and may have been the single most important aspect of his instruction. Not only did Jami calm my instantaneous trepidations with a leaking mask, but, within 15 minutes, or so, Jami w as able to instill me with such confidence we were able to rejoin the dive party and I was able to enjoy a scuba experience for the first time in my life. Upon surfacing, my first words to Jami were “what a blast!” As a 64 year old retiree and former submarine sailor, for which a free ascent from 50 feet was an unnerving, mandatory experience, I find it extraordinary that Jami was able to unleash me from my apprehensions and enable me to have the experience that lead me to certification almost 20 years ago. "What a blast!" Sincerely, Jim and I just finished our week with Roatan Live Aboard in Roatan, The Bay Islands of Honduras. For me it was the most luxurious living quarters I have ever had on board a dive ship. Divers will experience friendly and helpful support – especially for handicapped divers. Living accomodations are spacious, clean and comfortable. The members of the crew were particularly friendly and eager to provide excursions for sightseeing ashore. Generous cuisine reflect local flavor. All in all a collegial atmosphere prevailed for both passengers and crew. Jim Leimkuhler & Luther Johnson 80 year Luther Johnson and 70 year old Jim Leimkuhler were in Roatan Honduras diving with Dr. Jami Epstein who is a HSA Scuba Instructor (Handicapped Scuba Instructor). Dr. Epstein has been working with divers with disabilities for the last four years. Hi Dr. Epstein Great Instruction. Very patient Course Director. Well thought out schedule for the ten days, very educational. Dr. Betheaepstein (Course Director) and staff took their time with each student working well into the night to make sure we all understood what it takes to be a Open Water Scuba Instructor. Well worth the time and money. The accommodations and food were great. In my opinion you guys get a 9 and a half out of ten. Will recommend to people who are serious on becoming a Open Water Scuba Instructor. Thank You Guys, |
